The incident took place around 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 28, when the Milford Police Department responded to a crash on West River Street near Wolf Harbor Road, said Officer Joseph Dempsey of the Milford Police Department.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found that a vehicle had run off the roadway and hit a large tree causing serious front end damage, before bursting into flames.
The driver managed to crawl out of the vehicle but was not able to move far from it, as he had suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries to his legs and hips as well as having other internal injuries, Dempsey said.
Two good Samaritans, Jake Tymon of Fairfield and Mark Bernier of Milford, dragged the driver away from the vehicle as it had became engulfed in flames caused by the accident.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.
Milford Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire; the vehicle was destroyed.
